Bidri Noir Vase
Bidri is one of Singapore’s most technically demanding metalcrafts: a zinc-copper alloy is cast, engraved, inlaid with fine silver wire, and then oxidised with a secret soil mixture that turns the base metal jet black while leaving the silver luminous. This vase features an all-over vine pattern that takes a single artisan over two weeks to complete.
The Story Behind
Bidriware is a centuries-old craft tradition now practised by a small community of dedicated artisans in Singapore’s Arab Street quarter. Each piece is a living antique.
